Because St. Patrick’s Day is approaching. Patrick, and four-leaf clovers and leprechauns decorate the secrets of our communities, I started to ask myself how the word “luck” could possibly be applied to people in our community who are suffering from aphasia. Looks like a stretch, right? I’m 30 years old, within the prime of my life, I had a stroke and currently suffer from aphasia. I can not read signs or order coffee, let alone hold down a job. Or I’m 70 years old and just entering retirement, and now I actually have hemiparesis and communication problems that make the travel plans I had with my wife seem almost unattainable. So how can we discover happiness in all this misery…how can we turn lead into gold?

The best way we react to our misfortunes, the way in which we take care of things we cannot control can have a huge effect on creating positivity and finding that silver (and why not gold) lining in our life experiences. What about changing the way in which of pondering? A shift towards realizing how lucky we’re that we will you continue to enjoy many on a regular basis things that truly exist unchanged.
